Fort Bend Mobility Construction Imminent
Created on 03/25/09Fort Bend County will combine $39.1 million in federal stimulus funds with initial bond sales from the $156 million mobility bond referendum approved in 2007 to let contracts and begin construction on several road projects as soon as April.
The Houston-Galveston Area Council has approved for federal stimulus funding road construction projections totaling $39.1 million:
Widen FM 359 to four lanes, Farmer Road to U.S. 90A, $15.2 million;
Widen FM 1464 to four lanes, Shiloh Lakes Drive to the Grand Parkway, $19.4 million;
Widen Stafford/Staffordshire to four lanes, Beltway 8 to Fifth Street, $4.5 million.
The projects were selected for being "shovel ready" with right of way acquisitions, environmental approvals, and design work complete or near complete, and meet additional criteria of improving safety, leveraging resources, and creating long-term economic benefit.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) has also approved a list of maintenance projects, to receive Reinvestment and Recovery Act federal stimulus funding:
Resurface FM 3155 (Collins Road) from U.S. 90A to Richmond State School, $300,000;
Repair Highway 36 from U.S. 90A to Avenue M, $2.11 million;
Resurface US 90A from Wharton County line to Spur 10, $1.5 million;
Resurface FM 1093 from FM 1489 to FM 359, $1.5 million;
Resurface FM 521 from Highway 6 to Brazoria County line, $1.26 million.
